De Wikke is an inspiring organic agricultural project of the social economy organization Wonen en Werken, based in Heverlee and Herent.
Wonen en Werken offers sustainable employment to people with a large distance to the labor market. Wonen en Werken is valuing people, motivating them and giving them back opportunities. Guidance, support and development of employees is therefore key to the mission statement of Wonen en Werken. Support is actively provided every day on the shop floor by experienced and qualified instructors. There is a strong commitment to training and coaching to ensure that all people can develop their full potential.
Since 2002, De Wikke has been growing organic vegetables at the Benedictushoeve in Herent and in the garden of the Park Abbey in Heverlee. Our vegetables are guaranteed BIO and are strictly controlledby an accredited inspection body, after which they are sold in short supply chain economy.
At De Wikke, you can find workers with permanent contracts and volunteers in the labor care project . On the one hand, these are the workers who are employed within our custom made work organization: this is paid employment for people who have no place in the regular employment circuit. On the other hand, through employment care, we offer unpaid customized work to people who cannot, not yet, or no longer have access to the regular or protected employment circuit.
Our organic vegetables are being sold in farm store De Wikke, located in the Tithe Barn ("Tiendenschuur") of Park Abbey in Heverlee. In addition, you can find our products through Voedselteams and Kort'om Leuvenand they are available to staff members and students of KU Leuven, as well as employees of the City of Leuven.
At De Wikke, inclusion and social engagement are key. We believe in creating meaningful work experiences and a sense of community.
