OUR JOURNEY AND ACHIEVEMENTS OVER THE YEARS

Our origins:

  • 1988: Creation of Wonen en Werken to address unemployment in Leuven. The mission grows to offer sustainable employment to people distanced from the labor market.
  • 2002: Start of De Wikke, the organic agricultural project of Wonen en Werken

GROWTH AND EXPANSION:

  • 2014: Start of spontaneous sales in the field at Park Abbey in Heverlee.
  • 2015: Opening of the Farm Store.
  • 2021: Move from the store to the fully renovated Tithe Barn ("Tiendenschuur"). The new farm store De Wikke offers a wide range of organic fruits and vegetables, as well as produce from other local producers and labor care initiatives.

COLLABORATION AND IMPACT:

  • Over the years, De Wikke has collaborated with City of Leuven, KU Leuven, local businesses, Voedselteams, Kort'Om Leuven and other organizations and initiatives. This has helped to make organic and locally produced products more accessible to a wider audience.
  • The combination of organic farming and social employment has had a positive impact on both the local community and the employees of Wonen en Werken. Through training and coaching, countless people have been able to develop their potential and contribute to society.

Future Goals

De Wikke and Wonen en Werken remain committed to sustainable agriculture and inclusive employment, with the goal of making a positive impact on society and creating a better future for everyone.
